MUA’s commitment to be a responsible and sustainable insurer

01/04/2022

MUA's TRANSITION 2023 strategic plan is built on solid commitments: as a responsible insurer, we are ideally positioned to integrating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into our activities. We are fully aware that this is an intensive process over many months or even years that spans multiple functions, products, and services.

Our starting point has been to onboard our employees on this journey towards full ESG inclusion by creating and fuelling a community outreach We encourage our employees to participate in activities that have a positive impact on the community and the environment. Many of them have been involved in three projects sponsored by the MUA Foundation since the start of 2022.

Prevention is at the heart of our work and encouraging the early detection of cancer is vital. Because cancer affects young people at an increasingly early age, MUA partnered with the NGO Link to Life for an open screening day for breast and prostate cancers. Two hundred people of all ages came from all over the country on Saturday 26 February at La City Trianon to be screened and listen to medical specialists' advice on how to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

This is the motivation of our employees working with the NGO JA Mascareignes, which helps nearly 250 young people aged 16-25 to learn how to manage a budget each year. Building on their knowledge of savings, risk prevention and accounting, our team reviewed the curriculum and will soon assist the NGO in conducting training sessions to equip these young people with skills that they will be using in their daily lives and in future careers.

MUA is thrilled to be a Gold Species Champion of the Mauritius Fody. We have been supporting the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation for several years in its efforts to protect of endemic species and save them from extinction. MWF has a special breeding programme on Ile aux Aigrettes, preserving the natural habitat of this rare species. The MUA Foundation is planning several educational campaigns to highlight the plight of this beautiful bird, unique to our island.
